Never Answer a Question (15 min)

Being a guide at an Acton Academy is unlike working at any other school. It takes a special kind of person to see a young learner struggling to focus or to understand something and not step in and solve the problem for them. 

An Acton Guide understands that it is more important for the young person to learn to overcome their obstacles and take responsibility for their learning than it is for them to remain on task and have their problems solved.

In a perfect Acton Studio, a guide has passed on every responsibility for running the studio on to the learners and has essentially worked themselves out of the job. Our Acton is far from perfect but the principle remains that you should be trying to make yourself less important to the studio each day even when human instinct is pushing you to make yourself more needed.
