Going Deeper: Advanced Work in Nurturing a Growth Mindset
Are you ready for more? Here are a few ways to continue your nurturing of a growth mindset:
- Read the book Mindset by Carol Dweck. When you are finished with the book, create a presentation for others. The presentation can take any form, though you may want to try a skill you haven’t quite mastered yet. Maybe find a new presentation app online and organize your information there. Or maybe you think you’re a terrible songwriter, so might try composing the lyrics to a song about mindset. The presentation can be about any aspect of the book you found interesting or anything that stuck with you after reading it.
- For a week, practice turning any fixed mindset praise into growth mindset praise as soon as you realize you should. If you start to say, “You’re the best!” Follow up with, “You really worked diligently to complete the assignment.” After the week is up, write a second set of reflections about your long-term goals in this area.
Approval Process
We do not have a committee of Acton Academy Parents who will award your badge yet. This process is for more established campuses. As we are a new campus, we look forward to implementing this system. Let us know when you have completed the badge and your family will be awarded the badge at exhibition!
